The Center for Studies in Higher Education offices are located on the 7th floor of Evans Hall situated in the northeast quadrant of Berkeley's scenic hillside campus. The nearest road access is the East Gate on Gayley Road.
Directions to the Berkeley campus by car
From Northbound Highway 101 (San Francisco/Daly City)
- Follow 101 North to 80 East, San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge
- After
the Bay Bridge, Exit to I-80 East (Berkeley/Sacramento)
- Exit on University
Avenue
- Continue East on University Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles to the
the campus West Gate.
From Westbound Highway 24 (Contra Costa County)
- Take 24 through the Caldecott Tunnel to Highway 13 Berkeley exit
- Continue on
13, Hwy 13 becomes Ashby Avenue near the Claremont Hotel
- Turn right at Shattuck
Avenue
- Turn right at University Avenue and continue east one block to the campus
West Gate.
From Westbound Highway 13
- Highway 13 becomes Tunnel Road
- Continue on Tunnel Road
- Tunnel Road becomes Ashby Avenue near the Claremont
Hotel
- Turn right at Shattuck Avenue
- Turn right at University Avenue and continue
east one block to the campus West Gate.
From I-80 East or West
- Exit University Avenue
- Continue east on University Avenue for approximately
1.5 miles to the campus West Gate.
From Westbound I-580
- Exit I-80 East (to Berkeley, Sacramento)
- Exit at University Avenue
- Continue east on University Avenue for approximately
1.5 miles to the campus West Gate.
From North I-880 (San Jose; Hayward; Oakland Airport)
- Exit to 980
- Exit 580 West (to San Francisco)
- Exit 80 East (to Berkeley)
- Exit at University Avenue
- Continue east on University Avenue for approximately
1.5 miles to the campus West Gate.
Directions to the Berkeley campus from the Oakland Airport
Public Transportation
- At the airport take the AirBart Shuttle to the
Oakland Coliseum BART station
- Board a Richmond-bound BART train and get off
at the Berkeley Station
- Exit the Berkeley station at Center Street
- Walk east on Center Street for 1
block to the West Circle campus entrance
Airport Shuttles
Various door-to-door airport shuttles take passengers directly to the Berkeley
campus. These shuttles stop in a waiting area outside Terminal One (Southwest
Airlines). Reservations are not needed for
travel from the airport to Berkeley, but are recommended for those traveling
from campus back to the airport.

Parking
Although you can drive past the building near the Mining Circle, there is no parking directly adjacent, and very little on-campus parking nearby. The closest visitor parking is on Hearst Avenue. If you must park
nearby or make a delivery by car to the Center, call our office in advance
and we will make arrangements.
If a campus visitor parking permit has been arranged for you, you will be
asked to pick it up at either West Gate or East Gate,
shown on the map. The staff at the gate kiosk will direct you to a nearby parking
structure.
Public Parking
Public parking near campus is available to those without campus parking permits
at the following locations:
City of Berkeley Center Street Garage
2025 Center Street between Shattuck and Milvia Street.
City of Berkeley Sather Gate Garage
Located on Durant between Dana and Telegraph (southside of campus). Enter from
Channing Way or Durant Ave.
University of California Student Union Garage
Located on Bancroft just west of Telegraph.
Bancroft Garage
2558 Bancroft Way, 1 block east of Telegraph Avenue.
City of Berkeley parking lot at Oxford Street, Allston
Way, and Kittredge. Enter from Kittredge.

Bay Area Rapid Transit
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Trains operate from Fremont, Richmond, Bay Point/Concord
and San Francisco/Daly City. A map indicating the route and stops for each
train line is located at each station. The Berkeley BART station is just
1-1/2 blocks west of the Berkeley Campus.

AC Transit
AC Transit bus service provides transportation for commuters to and from San
Francisco and throughout Alameda and Western Contra Costa County. The AC
bus lines coming near the campus area are: 7, 8, 9, 15, 40, 40L, 43, 51,
64, 65, 67, and F. For additional lines and information contact AC Transit
