The Executive Leadership Academy (ELA) is designed for individuals from all backgrounds who are interested in preparing themselves for appointments to executive positions such as vice presidents, provosts, presidents, and chancellors. The ELA is an intensive and focused training academy for higher education administrators and faculty from across the country and throughout the world. A select faculty team of senior level higher education executives and scholars will provide an interactive curriculum. The theme for the ELA is “Ten Years from Now: Leading in a Multicultural Environment.”

“TEN YEARS FROM NOW: LEADING IN A MULTICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT”

We are in an age of fundamental and accelerating change in higher education. Among the major causes are:

• the constantly expanding capabilities of information technology, social media, and broadband communication,
• the forces of globalization that are erasing the boundaries between nations and institutions,
• diminished public funding of higher education as a recognized public benefit to society, and
• rapid demographic change, especially in multicultural and multinational environments worldwide.

The goal of ELA is to help prepare executive administrators and future executive administrators for this new higher education world now and a decade into the future.
Universities around the world are increasingly multicultural and multinational.  This global trend is evident in all aspects of academic and administrative life, including research, student affairs, community relations, athletics, admissions, and even areas such as development and alumni relations.  Anyone who aspires to lead in this new environment must have the knowledge and skills to work with individuals from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.

The Executive Leadership Academy trains leaders of colleges and universities to guide their institutions in a multicultural and multinational global environment.

Topics of discussion will focus on the following:

1. executive leadership models
2. latest research on the importance and application of multicultural competencies
3. entrepreneurial ventures in technology
4. budget and financial management
5. strategic, academic, and campus planning
6. shared governance models
7. faculty recruitment and retention, the tenure and post-tenure process
8. risk management
9. student life and fostering student success
10.  fundraising, total resource development, and advancement
11.  governing board relations
12.  transition and succession planning strategies
13.  successful executive career search strategies
14.  athletic program governance
15.  public relations and media relations
16.  communications and social media

Executive Leadership Academy will take place on the beautiful Clark Kerr Campus, University of California, Berkeley.

TUITION AND HOTEL COSTS
The total cost is $3,900 (US) per participant excluding hotel and transportation.

ELA TUITION FEE INCLUDES
Breakfasts, lunches, opening reception, one dinner and a closing banquet. Light refreshments will be provided during all sessions.

HOTEL OPTIONS
Approximate cost is $149 per night not including tax.

The two hotels are both within easy walking distance and are about equidistant from the Clark Kerr campus. The Claremont is a resort hotel with greater amenities. The Durant is adjacent to the main Berkeley campus, while the Claremont is substantially farther from it.
