Models of Virtual Universities

The NetAcademy Model
Dr. Pekka Himanen, Department of Philosophy, Helsinki University, Finland

The presentation will discuss the idea of the NetAcademy which could be summed up as the Socratic pedagogy on the internet. The old ideas of the dialogical learning and the teacher as a midwife will be applied to the virtual environment (amplified by the modern learning theories). The relation of research and learning in the NetAcademy will be the second main theme. The presentation will also describe some related developments in Finland.
