WINFOLine Experiences in Development and Deployment of Curricula on the Internet
Professor August-Wilhelm Scheer, University of Saarland, Saarbrücken, Germany
Being one of the first European online study programs in information technology, WINFOLine can look back on several years of successful virtual learning. The curriculum is caracterized by two factors: the variety of content offered by the cooperation of different knowledge suppliers as well as new possibilities of information technology. Cooperation creates „best of breed" content but also new issues such as the coordination of tests, the mutual acceptance of test results and the organization of test-taking via the internet.
The challenge of creating online study programs lies in adjusting traditional content to the requirements of learning in a virtual environment. The success factors are multimedia and interactivity. Animations are being used to combine visual representation with audio texts, relying on the possibilities offered by multimedia. In addition, to guarantee successful learning, interactive exercises allow students to check their knowledge.
The aim is to discuss the challenges and possible solutions for learning via the internet.
