UC Berkeley’s Center for Studies in Higher Education is celebrating its 60th year as the world’s first research center focused on the past and future of higher education. This conference will gather CSHE alumni and affiliated researchers, along with leading scholars and practitioners from throughout the world, focused on the theme New Nationalism and Universities, which includes the complex forces shaping populist movements in many parts of the world, and how they are shaping the missions, activities, behaviors, and productivity of major leading national universities. Register

Universities have been at the forefront of both national development and global integration. They undoubtedly will continue to play this dual role. But the political and policy world in which they operate is once again undergoing a transition, reflective of a significant change in domestic politics and international relations – a populist turn inward among a key group of major nations. Participants will explore the influence of nationalism, old and new versions, on major national universities.

In addition, CSHE and the Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) Consortium will hold a SERU Graduate Student Experience Workshop on November 15th that will feature recent data and analysis from the SERU Graduate Student Survey (gradSERU), and will serve as an introduction to the survey and the Consortium for interested research intensive campuses. See the SERU Consortium website for more information.
