Accountability and Public Trust in Higher Education

In collaboration with three other states and the State Higher Education Executive Officers Organization (SHEEO), the Center for Studies in Higher Education (CSHE) has received a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) with a focus on Accountability in Higher Education. Through the grant, each of the partners is engaged in public policy focus and research, with a particular focus on an area of higher education accountability.

The CSHE, in addition to its broad mandate focus, provides expertise in the area of public trust as it relates to public policy and is helping identify, document, and disseminate best practice models for California, other states, and higher education systems to consider as they engage in accountability efforts.

A national conference was hosted by the partnership in Charleston, South Carolina September 22-24, 2005 to discuss and disseminate pertinent information relating to the Accountability project and other related initiatives. More information about the Accountability Conference .
