Policy Issues in California Higher Education

The Center has a unique background and expertise in dealing with policy matters specific to higher education in California, including issues surrounding the California Master Plan for Higher Education. Current activities include a project examining public trust of higher education and the nature and types of accountability that can promote that trust. Another ongoing area involves undergraduate eligibility and admissions to the University for freshmen and transfer students. This includes development of analyses supporting the work of Board on Admission and Relations with Schools of the UC Academic Senate, and studies of the effectiveness of advanced placement courses and performance therein as a predictor of student success in higher education. Options for gaining future capacity for the University of California have been explored in a recent paper, "An Analysis of Alternatives for Gaining Capacity so as to Maintain Access to the University of California."
