Research Universities Going Global

Universities are affected by the global economy, new communication technologies, and fundamental changes in the markets for students, faculty and graduates.  New well-funded universities are being established in China, South Korea, Singapore and France with the objective of replicating the success of the American system in producing talented graduates and leading-edge research that wins Nobel prizes. 

What strategies are being adopted by leading research universities in the U.S. and Europe to respond to these new contingencies and ensure their future viability and prestige?  It is an opportune time to undertake some empirical studies of how the university is adapting and changing its structure, operations and institutional culture to accommodate a more complicated and networked world. These are among the questions we are studying in this CSHE-based project.
