This project will chronicle and analyze the major issues faced by the University of California's Office of the President from 1995 to 2003, the administration of President Richard C. Atkinson.  It was an eventful period in UC's history and one that raises a number of fundamental issues relating to the University's educational, research, and public-service missions.  The goal of this project is to shed light on 1) why these various issues mattered to the University, to California, and—on occasion—to higher education nationwide; 2) their roots in previous administrations; and 3) how they were defined and addressed.

This two-year study is being carried out by Research Associate Patricia A. Pelfrey.
