Professor Rupamanjari Ghosh has B.Sc.(Physics honors) and M.Sc.(Physics) degrees from the University of Calcutta, India, and a very well-recognized Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, NY, USA, where she worked as a Rush Rhees Fellow, chosen for “outstanding scholarly ability and the promise of exceptional contributions to scholarship and teaching.”

Dr. Ghosh is a former Professor of Physics, and Dean, School of Physical Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She has occupied many other important academic and administrative positions, and serves as an expert in important committees of the Government of India, and in many higher education/research institutions. She has held several Visiting Faculty/Visiting Scientist positions on invitation abroad, and delivered numerous invited research seminars. She joined Shiv Nadar University in 2012, as the Founding Director of the School of Natural Sciences and the Founding Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. She also headed the first Faculty Development Center started in 2013. She took over the role of the University’s Vice-Chancellor on 1 February 2016, and had been at the helm of the University’s growth for two terms with her transformational leadership.

Dr. Ghosh co-chaired the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Higher Education Committee for 4 terms (2018-21). She was a member of the Council of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Pune, 2019-22. She is currently an external member of the Research Council of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh, and a member of the Governing Council of Raman Research Institute, Bangalore. Dr. Ghosh has also served as the Chief Advisor for the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) Science textbooks for grades IX and X, developed afresh under the National Curriculum Framework-2005. Recipient of the Stree Shakti Science Samman for her “original contribution to Science”, Dr. Ghosh has contributed immensely to science research and training from the university to the school level. A researcher, teacher, orator, and an academic administrator par excellence, she is well known for her efforts towards the cause of gender justice and environmental consciousness in the higher education system.
