Former CSHE Director C. Judson King’s book, The University of California: Creating, Nurturing, and Maintaining Academic Quality in a Public University Setting, is now available in a second printing. This book, published by CSHE, reviews and analyzes the reasons behind the academic success of the ten-campus University of California. The intended audience includes those interested in the history and workings of that university, seeking insights on developing new universities or university systems, and/or interested in research universities in general.
The second printing converts the many internet links in the references to permanently available form. This overcomes the problem of “link rot”, where cited urls become unworkable because web sites are reorganized, web page contents change, or web sites disappear altogether. It utilizes a permanent file of deposited web sites and the Internet Archive to overcome this problem.
