Bio/CV: 

Jennifer Summit is Professor of English, former Dean of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning, and former Provost at San Francisco State University.  As an administrator, Dr. Summit led SF State’s faculty, colleges, and academic professionals in advancing student success and educational equity through excellent teaching, curriculum development, and student academic. She secured major grants from the Teagle Foundation, College Futures Foundation, and the Keck Foundation in support of faculty-led curriculum design at SF State and across the CSU.  She oversaw the expansion of the Metro Academies College Student Success Program and the Center for Excellence and Equity in Teaching and Learning, and supported the renewal of SF State’s historic Experimental College. She has served as a commissioner for the Western Association for Schools and Colleges, as well as holding a fellowship through the American Council on Education (ACE) at San Jose State.

A widely-published scholar in the fields of medieval and early modern literature and higher education, she is currently researching a project on educational stratification and the position of the California State University within the 1960 California Master Plan for Higher Education.
