Message from SERU Director:

Dear SERU campus representatives and associates,

We regret to inform you that SERU Symposium and Business Meeting planned for June 17-19, 2020 in Berkeley is officially cancelled.

We were looking forward to this event after not being able to meet in October 2019 but the COVID-19 global pandemic, campus closures and travel restrictions make it impossible to hold the symposium in Berkeley. Cancelling our in-person meeting is our contribution to flattering the curve of virus transmission and helping to keep everyone safe.

Know that our partners find tremendous value in our Symposium programming, and we do want to provide the SERU Consortium an opportunity to learn from each other. Following many other academic and professional meetings, we are going to move some of the symposium agenda online as a series of webinars and online panels focused on the campus climate issues throughout 2020. We will also be exploring webinars around other emerging issues to help support our partners during this challenging time. We will be in touch with speakers about the logistics.

Currently, most SERU campuses are working hard to mitigate the negative impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on their campus communities. The SERU Consortium is supporting the members by developing and offering a special survey on the impact of COVID-19 on the student experience. We will send you more updates about this survey later this week.

In addition, we will hold an online panel discussion "The Impact of COVID-19 on Undergraduate and Graduate Student Experience" featuring perspectives from SERU campuses on June 18, 9 am - 12 pm Pacific Time. Please save the date!

We are going to host online SERU NAD and SERU International business meetings (for current and prospective members only). Please see below tentative dates, we will follow-up with more details.


• SERU North American Division Business Meeting: June 17, 10 am - 1 pm Pacific Time.
• SERU International Division Business Meeting - 1 (Europe, South America): June 16, 9 am - 10:30 am Pacific Time.
• SERU International Division Business Meeting - 2 (China, Japan, New Zealand): June 16, 5 pm - 6:30 pm Pacific Time.

We are still hoping to host an in-person SERU Symposium at the end of 2020 or early 2021. Right now, it's challenging to determine a date for this meeting but as soon as our campuses begin to re-open we will provide you with an update.

Understanding Campus Climate: Towards an Inclusive Environment for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

SERU Research Symposium and Business Meeting, cancelled. 

The Center for Studies in Higher Education at UC Berkeley looks forward to welcoming SERU campus representatives, students, faculty, and staff from SERU participating institutions to the 2020 SERU Research Symposium in Berkeley!

A healthy campus climate is crucial for student cognitive development and well-being. SERU universities in the US and internationally are committed to promoting inclusion through sustaining a positive campus climate that welcomes and values all students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional), staff, and faculty. The 2020 SERU Research Symposium provides a venue to track progress and barriers in the development of a healthy campus climate for inclusion at research-intensive universities.
